Background of WALAL development

Walal Development Association (WALDA) is a non-profit making, non-political, non-religious and local non governmental organization established by concerned individuals born in Kellem Wellega Zone of Oromia Regional State. The target of the founders of the association was to see Kellem having a sustainable development and be free of poverty where the basic needs of all individuals are covered. Its remoteness and neglect by previous governments have resulted in poor human resources and poverty. WALDA started development activities in 2003 and has since been implementing projects in the Zone in health, water, sanitation and hygiene education, assistance to orphans and poor elders, education and women's self help and empowerment projects.


To see disadvantaged communities free from poverty with every member empowered to have access to his/her basic needs including food security, adequate housing, clothing, education, basic health and other services.


To enable disadvantaged communities gradually improve their livelihood while protecting the environment.
